NATALIE ROSE HUTTON SCULPTOR, STONE CARVER.
ARTIST STATEMENT
NATALIE ROSE HUTTON (b. 1987) is a Hertfordshire-based artist whose sculptural practice is grounded in the practice of direct stone carving. Working instinctively with stone, she allows form to emerge through a responsive process that embraces both control and unpredictability. This approach often results in abstracted, archetypal forms that sit between the ancient and the contemporary.
Natalies work explores the enduring relationship between humanity and the landscape, using stone as both material and metaphor to engage with themes of personal and collective memory, ecological responsibility, mental health and spiritual realignment. Through carving, Natalie considers how memory—particularly those connected to place, time and the body—are preserved, interpreted, or lost over time.
Central to her practice is the act of making itself: a physical, intuitive negotiation with the material that informs both the final form and its conceptual depth. Her process is central to the work itself: a physical confrontation with resistance and time, where the act of making becomes a form of listening, witnessing, and response. The results are records of this exchange—inviting contemplation of what remains.
An emerging artist, Natalie showcased her first significant piece at the 60th annual Society of Wildlife Artists (SWLA) exhibition at the Mall Galleries. Alongside her independent practice, she has contributed her sculptural skills to the film industry, working on renowned projects such as Indiana Jones and Star Wars.
